I notice that Mudgie069 sometimes describes things opposite to the conventions that I have used here in Humble Baritonics. He says the Baritone is the same as the low (as in closest to the ground) 4 strings of the Guitar and I have carried the convention that these are the high (higher pitch) 4 strings. Also conventional numbering of the strings is counting from the floor up 1,2,3,4 but he sometimes counts in reverse starting with 1 at the top (closest to your nose). Enjoy the tutorials, he's got the body of a god!

Joe Tate || Ukulele Baby Song Book (Baritone & Tenor

I was able to make it on the last day of the Wine Country Ukulele Festival and came across a man sitting at a table in the shade of some large trees. He was jamming on a vintage Martin Baritone Ukulele. He had some nice spiral bound books for sale "18 Songs Arranged for Baritone & Tenor Ukulele" and it includes a Play-Along CD. Of Course I had to buy it at a very fair price of $14.95 and present it here to the Baritone Ukulele player community.

Joe has a really good strong country/folk singing voice and does some mean Travis-style picking on some songs. The songs are not "baby" songs, they are a wide variety of songs:

Here's some trivia, "...The tenor guitar you see here (see the link below) is one of those gotten for a song. He keeps it tuned DGBE (like a baritone ukulele) which is known in the tenor guitar world as Chicago Tuning for reasons that completely escape me. If I was forced to make a guess, I'd say that the tuning was popularized by guitarists in Chicago who picked up the tenor and, like the tenor banjo players it was designed for, tuned it to something they were already familiar with."

Introducing Dylan L. a 16 year old young lady from Toronto, Canada. She plays a selections of covers and originals on the baritone ukulele. She's talented and has several more videos. I am not quite sure why she videos herself thru the mirror but her tripod acts as her music stand. I enjoy finding young players that a blossoming into such good musicians. In the first video, which she claims she's going to take down, I see images of many musicians at home playing and singing the songs that are so meaningful to them.

I am also posting this because my ex-Uklectic band buddy Robbie sang a Weepies song at the last Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz open mic night. She says we should listen to more Weepies music.

Todd whether as Doogey9 or Brother Sonny has been one of my favorites for a long time. He's an advocate of Simple and Soulful music. His music looks simple but it always has some flair and he's got a great country soulful voice.

The origins of skiffle are obscure, but are generally thought to lie in African-American musical culture in the early twentieth century. Skiffle is often said to have developed from New Orleans jazz, but this has been disputed. Improvised jug bands playing blues and jazz were common across the American South in the early decades of the twentieth century, even if the term skiffle was not used to describe them.

They used instruments such as the washboard, jugs, tea chest bass, cigar-box fiddle, musical saw, and comb-and-paper kazoos, as well as more conventional instruments such as acoustic guitar and banjo. The term skiffle was one of many slang phrases for a rent party, a social event with a small charge designed to pay rent on a house. It was first recorded in Chicago in the 1920s, and may have been brought there as part of the African American migration to northern industrial cities.

The first use of the term on record was in 1925 in the name of Jimmy O'Bryant and his Chicago Skifflers. Most often it was used to describe country blues music records, which included the compilation "Hometown Skiffle" (1929), and "Skiffle Blues" (1946) by Dan Burley & His Skiffle Boys.[5] It was used by Ma Rainey (1886–1939) to describe her repertoire to rural audiences.[1] The term skiffle disappeared from American music in the 1940s.

Hippomaiden: Come Back When You Can (Cover)

Emily, seems to put so much emotion into each of her songs. The www.theseashanty.net has been abuzz on HB since hearing her hippomaiden productions. Now whenever I hear her sing I think of a young lass waiting on the shorelines for her love to come back. It took me a while to really listen to hippomaiden but now HB is definitely a fan.
