Andrew Skelton || Colors (Cover)

I see Andrew has the f-hole bari. It does have a good sound. Andrew when you read this I would appreciate some comments on how you like this bari to share with others. They seem to be quite reasonably priced, are only slightly smaller than a standard bari-uke, and have a unique look. How was the string height set up when you first got it?

  1. Well the Uke is actually sold as a Tenor and can be bought via Amazon and Hobgoblin..as such first off it came with Tenor strings which I could tune DGBE but they were kind of slack..being slightly bigger than a actual Tenor however it is stated in the sales blurb it can and will take Baritone strings.
    The sound acoustically is maybe less 'bassy' than another Baritone I have and is far lighter in tone..this I suspect is more to do with the acoustics of the f hole than anything.
    The strings still seem a tad slack compared to my other baritone but careful playing compensates for this and my recent 'felt pick' experiments have helped.
    The Uke itself is a 'Chinese' factory model sold under various names(notably blue moon) under I guess some sort of license..I have used it at an open mic and it always elicits comment ..although last time it was difficult to get a loud enough sound out..however I have a temporary pick up now and will update on if this helps in that setting(I suspect it will).
    It is a good Uke for the money and I kind aesthetically more so maybe than playability...however that said it has a different sound from my other baritones and is no slouch so ultimately I give it the thumbs up!!

  2. Thanks Andrew for the detailed report on the Blue Moon tenor/bari uke. It seems that every instrument has a slightly different personality.
