Dirk from Germany puts Brass Strings on A Pono Baritone

Dirk a.k.a. MugambisMonkey's words about his experiment...

This is an experiment. I put bronce strings on my Pono mahogany baritone uke (which has a scale length of 550 mm), using the following string diameters: .023w(D) .017(G) .014(B) .010(E). The uke sounds slightly out of tune (however it is not), I guess it's because of the compensated saddle which is made to compensate nylon strings and thus "overcompensates" now. I like the sound, but a real tenor guitar probably sounds better. :-) The sound is acoustic, I just use the Microcube in the background to play back the rhythm. Please cut me some slack since I usually never use a pick.
