The Daily Ukulele: Baritone Edition

I think that it is time for me to give some additional thanks to Jim and Liz Beloff for putting together this book of amazing tunes and gearing it to the baritone ukulele. When I posted "Today Is The Best Day to Be A Bari Player" this book hadn't been put together. I know that every bari player could use this as a cornerstone of their bari-uke library. Each song is put in standard musical notation and is on a single page which makes it so easy to use. No page turning. The easy, first position diagrams, are shown for all chord shapes.

These chord shapes may be easy, but there are many chords in the book that will surely add to your chord vocabulary. Flea Market Music is a place to receive some of the best ukulele music in the world. Jim and Liz have made many ukulele players happy. In their book they talk about the ukulele as a social instrument. Bari players have been more independent since we have had to take either GCEA notated songs or truncated guitar arrangements, study them and make them our own.

See the Baritone Edition link at Flea Market Music page. There is additional link for the entire table of contents, here. You can also find a link to a sample page here. (Most songs are a full page.)

The selection of songs is a very wide slice of well-loved, time-tested tunes. Jim has all of the arrangements set to the same keys as his The Daily Uke for GCEA-tuned ukes, so you can play along with other ukers playing with their The Daily Ukulele. I also find it great that the book is spiral bound. It lays flat and is easy to use.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  1. Hi Jeff I'm new to the baritone and wonder how to play the tunes in this book when your lowest note is a D.
    Cheers,

  2. I'll have to take a look at my book. On a standard GCEA tuned uke in C re-entrant tuning has a C as the lowest note. The baritone ukulele has D, E, F, G, A, and B. as lower notes on a standard DGBE tuning.

The C that you have at open 3rd string of a GCEA uke is equal in pitch to the C at the first fret of a DGBE tuned bari-uke.

    E F F# G G# A
    B (C) C# D D# E
    G G# A A# B (C)
    D E# E F F# G

    (C)'s have identical pitches.

The are many times I do wish I had a lower C on the bari.
